Houseman Field Public Meeting in Early January

Grand Rapids Public Schools representatives will be hosting a large community meeting for EVERYONE interested in learning more about the improvements underway at Houseman Field. Please make time to join in this important discussion about how to best move forward with this great neighborhood asset.

Volunteer Opportunities Needed-Can Midtown help YOU?

Midtown Neighborhood Association is always looking for opportunities to help out with projects, big and small, in the neighborhood. If you have a project (and the supplies to complete it) but need some extra “hands” to get the job done, please let us know. When we plan our 2009 project-volunteer lists in January 2009 it would be great if we were able to help YOU with some of those volunteers.

We also ask that you consider assisting by volunteering for neighborhood events such as community celebration and the perennial plant exchange, and others listed below.

Suggestions from residents regarding the direction of the association as well as Events & Activities for the year and “other” things are encouraged!

Expanding the Fulton Street Farmers Market: A Feasibility Study & Strategic Business Plan

The Fulton Street Market in the Midtown Brikyaat neighborhood has served as a farmers market since at least 1922. As the neighborhood’s largest destination, drawing people from surrounding neighborhoods and across the region, the market is central to revitalization plans for the Brikyaat and broader Midtown neighborhood. As such, there is great desire to improve the market so that it works better, but also to expand it to a year-round destination for farmers and other vendors and consumers alike.

In June, 2008, Project for Public Spaces (PPS) was hired by the Midtown Neighborhood Association (MNA) to conduct a feasibility analysis and strategic business plan for expanding the market to a year-round, indoor facility. Building on the wealth of prior research and planning for the market, this report details the results of our study and lays out options and recommendations for expansion as well as next steps towards implementation.
