Another Fun, Sunny Saturday in Midtown

21 May 2012 / 0 Comments / in Uncategorized/by kello

Residents from Midtown, Eastown, Neighbors of Belknap Lookout, Kentwood and Cutlerville (WOW!) participated in Saturday’s Perennial Plant Exchange at the Midtown Green Park.  Hostas, Lilies, Daisys, Spider Plant, African Violets, plants, seeds & starts of all kinds were available for the taking.  The weather was beautiful and everyone had a good time.

One resident of the Woods had this to say, “Thanks for the goodies!

I spent 6 hours in my yard yesterday weeding and planting”.

While another resident, also from the Woods stated that he and his wife

“are interested in a Fall Exchange.

We always seem to bring home something interesting.”

If you are interested in helping to plan or participate in a Fall perennial exchange please let us know. There were many requests and our staff would be happy to organize around the idea if there is community support of it.

Flowerland and Midtown Neighborhood

08 May 2012 / 0 Comments / in Uncategorized/by kello

Midtown would like to take this opportunity to thank Flowerland for their generous donation of MacIntosh apple trees!  The trees will be planted soon and will help to increase Midtowns urban tree canopy.  They will also serve as future “learning stations” for residents interested in growing their own “Edible Tree Canopy” here in the City.  Photos of the tree plantings and growth will be posted to this website and announcements regarding “how to-learning station” events on pruning, harvesting and utilizing the fruits grown on these trees will be forthcoming.

The trees will not likely bear fruit this season, but will instead use this time to grow strong roots in preparation for years to come.  Likewise they will provide a little shade…which is always nice on a hot, sunny day.

Perennial Plant Exchange May 19th

07 May 2012 / 0 Comments / in Uncategorized/by kello

If this year’s Michigan weather has not only you but also your plants confused…join the crowd!  Our office has heard from several people that things are growing out of control earlier this year and that subsequently the Perennial Plant Exchange just can’t come fast enough.

This years exchange will be held at the Midtown Green park, Eastern at Fountain, on May 19th from 10a-12noon.  Join other “green thumb garden enthusiasts and wanna-be’s” as they gather on the Green with plants, seeds and garden art in tow.  Remember to label your offerings with “Sun”, “Shade”, or “Mixed” so that those persons bringing home the new-addition will know right where to plant.

If you have questions about the event or would like to weigh-in on whether or not Midtown hosts a similar event in the Fall (as well as in the Spring) please contact our staff by e-mail at midtownmi@yahoo.com or by phone at 732-9191

See you on the 19th!
